It still boggles the mind, that they would cancel all service after just one hull loss.

One hull loss and $30.00 a barrel oil. A 50% increase from the previous year. And one of only 14 to ever enter service. A 7% loss rate right off the bat.

Still, to me, an engineering and tech. marvel, but one that always bucked the economic and sound barrier hurdles.

The short legs and fuel burn put that soon to be AB hobby horse to bed, not a tire failure, of which there were several, and a known issue. See you from the (show anyway) section.

Oil went to $110/bbl eight yrs later. No other carrier flying jumbos disappeared

No carrier flying Concorde disappeared, unless you would like to include BI, which was a license agreement flyer for a little over a year. DFW-IAD, and dead the first time 5/1982.

My dad was a TT salutatorian graduate in Lubbock TX. and went to work for Mobil in 1950 as a geophysicist by degree. My Granddad managed Mobil tank farms, and my uncle was a Mobil pipeline maintainer/supervisor to include IH Solar turbines that powered the pumps. I knew how many US gallons were in a barrel when I was 8 years old.

The $110/bbl was on oblunders watch and forced Every major US carrier into bankruptcy. hope and change? When I was routinely flying a CL60 into and out of TEB and the fuel bill to get home was $5500.00 or more in the early 2000's I said 'Wow' this can't last. After the 2008 elections, it didn't.

The single worst period for GA in aviation history, and some of the remnants remain to this day. Or Don't you read BCA.

And a barrel of oil is 42US gals = 0.71/gal wholesale = $1.39 at the pump
