Flight options plummet at Missouri's new Branson Airport
Departures have been down sharply at Missouri's Branson Airport in 2015, the first full year in which the facility has been without a "mainline" carrier. (www.usatoday.com) Altro...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
SGF is just too close for Branson to make much of an impact - Springfield has more to offer in options and destinations than Branson will ever have. A lot of the tourists going to Branson drive anyway. Even the flight school down there didn't make an impact!
Of course people from STL drive over fly to either (Branson or SGF), why would they fly if it means going to ORD first, To make it work, they need scheduled service to and from the cities that most Branson Tourists will visit from. If a carrier were to use it as such with directs to STL, OKC, MEM and other top markets for the Branson vacation crowd, they may find success for both the carrier and the airport until then the airport will continue to flounder. Maybe SWA has the flexibility to make that work.
I live in SW MO and when my son flew here from FL he came Allegiant out of SFB direct SGF and the plane was full (A320). He talked with some of the folks and the majority were either going to Branson or lived in SGF. SGF has quietly put Branson out of business because of their direct and connecting flights. Branson would make a nice flight school airport but, of course, that's not going to happen.
