Boeing discussing new mid-market plane with leasing companies and suppliers

Boeing has been waffling about a MoM for years, and during that time Airbus has managed to turn the A321 into an attractive option that will be available years before Boeing can respond.

Airbus will be entrenched by then, and with the losses both companies have to absorb right now due to the general downturn in the industry, Boeing can't really afford to develop a MoM alternative from a clean sheet. It might be in their best interest to not try to compete head-on and instead focus on other segments where they do well.
