With due respect to captain Sullenberger, I'll take a daylight ditching in a river over trying to land a missile-struck Airbus with no flight controls! (www.askthepilot.com) Altro...

Was the Airbus A300B4-200F fly-by-wire?

The production 300s and 310s never were fitted with any form of FBW, although they already were equiped with a flight enveloppe protection.

Not originally, that came out on the A320, but I'm not sure if any were upgraded.

I'm not saying the examples listed in the short article aren't impressive. They are. But. The author really doesn't see that what Sully did was impressive because all passengers survived? Passengers, not cargo/boxes.

I think you may be missing his point. I didn't read in to it that the author felt Mr. Sullenberger's actions were not impressive. I think he was pointing out that others 'stepped up to the plate' but did not receive the attention that flight 1549 did. That's all.

One might infer that since the Baghdad Bus returned to earth with the "cargo/boxes" intact and unharmed, had the "cargo" been passengers, the result would have been the same. Professional pilots save themselves in catastrophic events, the "cargo" people or boxes are along for the ride! Had you been sittin in the jump seat of this "cargo" aircraft Bobby, Sully would be another of your all time favorite front page "Hero" pilots. Not the most ballyhooed. And he has pretty much said the same. And Joel's point is spot on.

I guess my wording wasn't great. By impressive, I really should have said "attention-grabbing". And by attention grabbing I meant sensational enough for the media.
