Well, there is pro and con on this both ways. The American carriers are private companies, receiving no government subsidies. Clark can talk about the BR law but it ain't a bed of rose and ain't seen an airline yet come thru one unscathed. That said, Emirates had the government money for startup and even though it has been repaid, they have the government to fall back on. These U.S. CEO's, thogh, had best be careful. The prevailing thought is to stop the gulf airlines from coming in here. If it were to be done, it could work both ways now. They are probably thinking that we'll stop them from coming in here, and we'll pick up that traffic. What's to stop the gulf carriers home country from doing the same thing? Maybe they are thinking codeshare with somebody else?

The home country cutting off US carriers would only effect end traffic into the Gulf. It won't be such a big deal if the US airlines have the ability to bypass the region with long range twin jets. They will need to upgrade their current fleets to do this.

Emirates is a premium airline. I enjoy flying them in first. They showcase what American airlines could be like if we did not have costumed characters like Doug Parker running them.

Until our oil production is plentiful enough to tell OPEC to GPS (go pound sand) the member states will suck obscene amounts of wealth out of our society. They have been doing it for over 40 years.

Clark plays up the small (repaid) investment of the government, but does not tell us how much he pays the government for fuel. He won't show you paystubs for workers that are paid less than American carriers' employees have taken out in taxes. He probably forgot to mention his crews living in dormitory like conditions away from home. He does cry loudly about "fairness" but has little inclination to compete on a level surface.

Clark has reported there fuel bill recently it's over 300mil in costs but Emirates can or has the cash flow to support that with its profit. Although if they co share or take Gulf under there arrangements it will give them more flexibility to spread there wings where they don"t fly too
