Emirates has been ordered by a judge to pay a passenger $1.63m (£1.2m) after losing his bags 12 years ago.

Orji Prince Ikem, a Nigerian businessman, was travelling to China for business in 2007 when the loss occurred. Ikem was carrying $1.63m cash in his hand luggage in order to purchase goods in China. A remarkable case. First of all the plaintiff took a large amount of cash on a business trip, being presumably incapable of organising international bank transactions. The chances are that the Emirates employees were local criminals - a breed of visitor to Lagos airport who are as numerous as bees in a honeypot. I doubt very much that any other court would have given him the time of day.

the passenger was world-class dummy to accede to the demand to give over his money bags. Don't know how he proved the money was in those bags, but bully for him...
