From an interesting talk at NBAA with someone, this will not be able to be logged as a cross country. The individual I spoke with was flying a B-52 and flew all over but returned to departure airport after several refuelings in the air.

It's my understanding that if you have a commercial or ATP certificate, you can log XC as long as you were 50nm away from the origin. Landings are not required.

And does a B-52 pilot have a ATP or commercial certificate if they had no previous experience before the military?

I don't think so but I think civilian certifications are only a proficiency test away if you hold military certifications.

XCfor the purposed of a commercial cert, and instrument rating need to be 50nm away from point of departure. You can log anything XC in your logbook, but for Comm and inst, only 50+nm will count.

for atp or 135 mins, it's either way, anything goes
