Haha, I find that pretty funny.

Airport fire departments need to spend more time training for the unique realities of planes on the ground instead of the usual fire service practice of hanging around the fire house growing moustaches and cooking bad chili.

It's not like this was a 380 which takes up a lot more runway. The wingspan of a 787 is pretty close to a 747, which have been around for years. I haven't read about any airports damaging a 747 lately with a water salute. I'm in favor of all the firetruck operators taking a depth perception test.

I can agree that it is ultimate responsibility of the pilot, BUT, if you are on the centerline, you have a reasonable expectation of clearance for the aircraft you are driving. IMHO.LOL

If you want my hard, crotchey, old self, then I'll out and out lay it on the FD as being too close; and that was by their own admission.LOL. How's that?

"We're suspending all water cannon salutes," Zink said, "until we can make sure this never happens again."

Here's a suggestion: Park the trucks farther from the runway.

That would probably be too simple. They'll have to figure out something that costs money. LOL
