What's the rate of fire Ken? 100 rounds per second? Is it that we just can't see the casings or do they keep them inside the aircraft?
David Sims
I have been told most modern fighters retain the casings in order to maintain weight and balance, and to reduce the possibility of FOD.
The "GUN" is among my photos, it's a GAU-8 and the rate of fire is up to 75 Rounds per Second. The 20mm Vulcan is about 100 RPS...

Some of the other photos of the A-10's I can see the rounds coming out of the muzzle....

they look like a small scratch on the photo.

Looks like your question was answered Mark by William. Take care.

It's the "behind the curtains" drama that is troubling. AF Brass feels they 'need' the F-35 (at how many billion?) which can't get through it's operational test program. Rather (in my view) they should park the F-35's and focus on quickly giving the AF a Thunderbolt 3.

Tubby 35 will never be slim enough to deliver as promised . . . . Didn't we do this a long time ago: F-111?

And didn't Lockheed propose a Super F-104 Starfighter to compete against the F-15 as the next generation Air-To-Air Superiority Fighter.....guess in the early 70's.

And North American had the turboprop version of the P-51 as a ground attack aircraft competiing against the Fairchild A-10.....glad the A-10 won.
