Well, Sam, I found it. There aren't any identifying numbers that I could use to track this one ... so I used what is shown ... a Viet Nam Service Ribbon, an Eagle in blue, a Lockheed Connie, and some type of antenna setup on the top. And bingo ...
This is a picture of a US Navy "Blue Eagle" (NC-121J). Based on where the Blue Eagle is positioned under the cockpit on this one, this is probably "Blue Eagle I". (Blue Eagle III and Blue Eagle VI had the eagle farther back so it isn't either one of those aircraft. There were no aircraft designated IV or V, and I cannot find a pic of Blue Eagle II which operated out of Da Nang.)
This aircraft was part of "PROJECT JENNY." This one (and the other Blue Eagle birds) provided an airborne radio relay that enabled AFVN (Armed Forces Vietnam Network) television reception to the base and World Series radio coverage reception to troops at forward bases. That is what those antenna masts are for.
There is a superb website devoted to the Blue Eagles. Click on the link below to read everything about PROJECT JENNY. Congrats to you for this capture, and TY to you for sharing it. Tracking it helped me learn about these Blue Eagle aircraft and about PROJECT JENNY.
