Boeing 737-700 (VH-VUO) - Close up detail of tail section of a B738. Note the outflow valve in the open position below rear door passenger exit. As the aircraft gains altitiude, this door will slowly close, but not completely shut, which allows the passenger cabin and flight deck to pressurise, allowing passengers to breathe at a comfortable atmospheric pressure of about 7000ft. The final figure depends on final cruise altitude, ultimaterly keeping the pressure differential for the fuselage structure within safe limits.
