Lockheed P-3 Orion (15-9887) - EP-3 night shot in the south Pacific, this is the follow-on shot to my previous photo. Clouds had moved in. 30 second exposure. Canon 10-22mm. Looks sharper on Flickr. Photo was approved via Navy channels, full photo credit: LT Scott Shea, USN (me). For ATC identification purposes, this is a P3, hence why it pops up as such.

Best viewed with the "full" button clicked... and another exemplary "5" star photo!!!

Thank you very much, Lieutenant Scott Shea, USN, for sharing this photo with the FA community... and our unending gratitude is owed, Sir, for your faithful and dedicated service to our country!

Excellent LT, very well done! 5*++
It's an EP-3E ARIES II, not a P-3 ORION.

I have quite a few mission hours on board those aircraft.

Kind of hard to see, but the tail flash looks like it's a VQ-1 bird.

P.S. - Just checked the BUNO 159887 and it's VQ-1 EP-3E.

Robert, yes, but for ATC purposes, it's a P3. They do not demarcate or differentiate the different models. From what I can tell, ATC codes are used for aircraft Identifications on Flight Aware, so that is why I placed it as P3.
P.S. We may have flown together....
Very "artistic" shot. I appreciate your service, Lt.

I'll take your word for it, Scott. As far as flying together, I was with NSGD Barbers Point from 1985-1989 (enlisted) and with NSGD Atsugi/NRSD Misawa (O-ganger) from 1991-1993.

Robert,

Sorry for the very delayed reply. I was VQ-1 from 2012-2015 and was the occasional user and abuse up until this past year. These days I jockey a desk and I count down the days until retirement!

Cheers!
