Boeing 737 MAX 8 (N8720L) - Departing a bit late after being deiced, Southwest's N8720L swings into position for takeoff on 34L-16R, the only open runway, as Plow One, the lead of a four plow Conga Line, reaches the south end of taxiway Bravo. The storm only deposited a few inches of snow; however, those few inches came well after several inches of freezing rain and heavy wet flakes had fallen and turned everything into a solid ice skating rink. When I had first arrived in the darkness, snow was still falling, but as the dawn progressed that snow again became wet and heavy and with temps still below freezing, a new coating of ice would form just as soon as the plows completed a sweep and started back to the north. The crews did a fine job and later in the morning the sun broke out and the crews were able to give attention to the other runways and taxiways.
