There was a Kentucky Air Guard Hercules ramped just to the left of 98-5307 but its visit was not related to the visit of these two Weather Group Hercs.

They are here for a few weeks (thru most of February and perhaps into early March) doing studies of the "Atmospheric River." The "Atmospheric River" comes off the Pacific Ocean .. of course, it varies ... and has a huge influence on west coast weather; especially along central CA and Oregon, and subsequently into the Sierra Nevada and then OVER that mountain range and into Nevada. This winter, through almost all of January, we had temps in the 50s and no precip ... and then the Atmospheric River shifted and last week we had three storms, all of which dumped snow in the Sierra and one that even dropped snow on Reno and northern Nevada. So, during the "off season" for hurricanes, they are here studying this A River. Understanding it better will aid in more accurate weather forecasting for the entire country (because often the weather we get here moves east). When Hurricane season returns, these Hercs will return to their home stations. (Wave)
