Why the propeller (wind generator) under the belly extended?
Frank, thats the RAT. Ram Air Turbine. Probably the exact reason this heavy bird landed in SAT to begin with.
In case anyones wondering... it was an MX Flight. A/c flew from EGLL to ORD day before. Next day the flew ORD-SAT as AAL9643 on Feb 24, 2018. Bird stayed grounded in SAT till March 11, 2018 - test flight from SAT to SAT as AAL9672 and did many holding patterns at FL 400 down by LRD. Next day flew to DFW to re-join the "line". Once at DFW, she flew 121 flag from DFW to SCEL. Very cool stuff!
