My dad was a lifer in the military, and said that he was never more frightened than the time he flew in a C-130. He said you couldn't smoke, and the smell of fuel was so strong. He said it made him think they were flying in a bomb waiting to go off. The fumes, he said, were strong enough to give you a headache, and the smell stuck with you after a shower.
Knowing that military gear is lowest bidder stuff, soldiers and pilots are the most courageous people around. We owe them so much. Awesome picture...

Unlike conscription like we had, for a war we did not believe in, your Dad made a choice. A choice which you should be extremely proud of.

Flying in a C130 into a hostile drop zone when you were forced to, I'd rather have the option of not smoking, and stinking of fuel. Those were days one can never forget. While conscription was compulsory, I take my hat off to those who fought voluntary ...
