Restored Veteran C53D Skytrooper, left Riverside, CA 8May headed to GB and France for a D-Day re-enactment. She’ll carry 20 of about 250 other jumpers on the June 5 drop. Newly named D-Day Doll completed two parachute drops and a troop carrier glider tow on invasion day. Built, July 1943 at the Douglas Santa Monica plant. Inland Empire Wing, Commemorative AF operates the WWII So Cal Aviation Museum; obtained the plane in 2001. Restoration has been underway for the past two years. A great addition to the 75th anniversary. I wa a member of the 101st Abn for the 25th.
