— — - I have no information on this airplane, I guess it must have been a Harvard of some variation. At this point even though the photo looks old I believe the aircraft had been restored, it was immaculate as I recall. Maybe someone has info and can comment? I shot this in approximately 1981 on slide film at an airshow. This is merely a DSLR photo of an Echtacrome slide I processed myself roughly 35 years ago when I was probably still in High School. The airport was last known as 21D4, "Silverwood" on the northern outskirts of Coeur d Alene Idaho (KCOE). At the time this shot was taken I believe it was known as Henley Aerodrome. There is no longer an airport there, its an amusement park now.

Wow some rocket scientist went to the trouble of voting "poor" on a 35 year old photo because it's not up to today's digital standards! I guess I better not put up any more of these old photos then!

You let one hater stop you? It's a great shot, keep it up!

Yep, because it's actually sort of a PITA to digitize these old photos and write the little comments describing what they are. I spent pretty much all day Sunday going through a box of slides and screwing around with these in photoshop, I did that to share some old aviation photos with people that are interested in aviation, wasn't really looking for glory & fame as an aviation photographer, lol. By the time I'd uploaded the 4th one I see some idiot that probably wasn't even alive when these photos were taken had already voted 2 of them "poor". I tend to avoid masochism so I'll simply find something more rewarding to do on Sundays from now on, pretty simple. Thanks for your comment.

Don't stop, there are plenty of us on this site that really look forward to seeing old photos like these, some of the highest quality shots on this site get one starred by jealous fools. The real aviation photographers understand the limitations from 30-40 year ago and will enjoy and support your efforts

I agree 100% with Todd.
Hi, Jim. I'm Gary (RNOOldeCarl). I've posted quite a few old pics that I've either salvaged from faded old prints taken back in the 60s or resurrected from old negatives of photos I took back in the 60s. I put quite a bit of work into scanning, editing, spot healing, etc., the oldies I posted, but it has been well worth the effort because plenty of viewers (Todd, Roy, and many, many others) have written to say they enjoyed viewing the old snaps. I have to say that if your purpose for doing all the effort and for posting them was to get lots of "stars," then I agree with you that you probably should not post any more ... because I can assure you that there is/are some one or two viewers who will award your hard work and time with a "1." I can say that from experience; one time I scanned two separate B&W pics and then took a lot of time to sync them together to create one large shot of an American Airlines B727, and within minutes someone not only gave it a "1" but also emailed me to tell me how dumb I was for posting such a "shi--y" picture. But I didn't post it for "Stars" and I didn't post it for that person. My reply was that if he didn't like it, don't view it. I posted it to share my original pic with those who want to see an old classic or who enjoy seeing a/c from the past. And if THAT is your purpose too, then you won't let a little thing like a low "star" vote deter you. This is a superb pic (truthfully, far better than the old ones I share) and I, along with many others would certainly like to view more of the snaps you have taken, but if the "stars' are what you are seeking, then you may indeed wish to stop sharing. But before you make your final decision, just consider ... FA is a public access site. Anyone with a tech gadget can join. It could be an 8 year old child, or maybe an adult with the intelligence and/or maturity of an 8 year child, who likes to click on the stars just to see them fill in like the coloring book he (or she) draws in. It's your choice, but I hope you decide that sharing the aviation history you have recorded on your slides is way more important than how many stars you get for doing it. (Wave and a tip of my photog's cap to you for this great picture.)

I appreciate the support gents. No it's not about the stars, I couldn't care less and I think the tooltip text on each of the stars is where the problem lies when you think about it:

1 star = "Poor"
2 stars= "Below average"
3 stars= "Average"
4 stars= "Good"
5 stars= "Excellent"

My reaction in the first comment was in response to those tooltips really, "what kind of sorry SOB goes to the trouble of telling me my photo was "poor"?! Grrrrr!!

In reality though after thinking about it a bit I rather doubt it was truly the voter's intention to "poor" my photo (or anyone else's in most cases), they probably saw it simply as a "rating of 1 star" - intended to be an "upvote" of sorts, whereas "0 stars" or no vote would indicate indifference. In other words they liked the photo enough to click a star?

I think FA could alleviate a lot of angst over photo submissions if they just eliminated those tooltips so 1 star simply meant "1 star" rather than "poor".

Again I appreciate the comments and I've checked out all your spectacular photos, really great shots gentlemen! You'll probably see more of me from time to time, I've got a couple boxes of old pics to go through yet, lol.

Jim, You are correct. As others have stated there are people that will give a great shot one star and they will also vote five stars for their own photos. I really do not put much weight in the star system.
