Hawaii-Based F-22s Scrambled On FAA's Request But Nobody Will Say Why

A pair of F-22 Raptors were launched on an alert scramble out of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam on Sunday at around 4:00 PM local time. A third F-22 joined the mission about an hour after pair's departure. A KC-135 was also launched to support the fighters. Hawaii News Now reports that the scramble, described as an "irregular patrol," was initiated at the request of the Federal Aviation Administration, which reported an 'incident,' although nobody is providing any clear… ( More...

If it was at the request of the FAA, I'd suggest that it was something that had or was believed to be happening on a civil airliner. The FAA don't do air defence.
The Russian Navy has been conducting military exercises about 300 to 500 miles west of Hawaii prompting the U.S. on Sunday to scramble three F-22s to respond to long-range bombers, a report said.
Yup and they are still there as of 6/19

Anyone got a pic of a F-22 with “wing tanks” ???

Ask, and ye shall receive:

Not telling us why they did that? Must be there was no reason. Maybe a ufo though
F-22's? Were are the F-35's?
Rich Boddy 3
The superior fighter was scrambled, not sure why you're asking about F-35's here?
Mike Ziemann 3
The F-35s are in Alaska, in Utah, in Arizona, in Florida, in Japan... to name a few places. But not in Hawaii. So, hence, you scramble the F-22s that ARE in Hawaii, to respond to a "threat" near... Hawaii.

Thanks to everybody that got that loud expensive F-35s not flying over me in Tucson. The warthogs A-10s are OK.
Tim Dyck 1
Maybe Mike expects the F-35s from the mainland to go fly several hours to asses the situation wile the F-22s are right there?
Highflyer1950 6
What, fly a single engine over water! LOL
Mike Ziemann 4
We fly single-engine fighters over the open ocean ALL THE TIME.

Maybe not stationed in Hawaii?

F-35s are entirely too noisy to be allowed in Hawaii air space. Played golf on vacation next to the L-M plant in FtW. You could really tell when one of the F-35s would light up vs F-18s or F-16s.
Justthefacs 5
Great aircraft. Productions line closed because it was too expensive. Ridiculous. You fly the not quite as good when your tail is on the line. Who makes these dumb decisions.
Tim Dyck 6
As a Canadian I wish we could but F22s. If you cannot afford a lot of planes then at least give your men and women the best planes.
WhiteKnight77 2
Those planes woke me up on a regular basis in '05 when they would leave the Lockheed Martin plant at Dobbins ARB for their first flight. I would be ready for them when they returned, with my camera.

Update: FAA statement was hilarious. "The FAA has a close working relationship with the military."
Bill Seward 2
UFO? They've been the hot topic lately.

There are many more incidents and interdiction flights that you are informed about.

Congrats. You went from “the Russians are coming!” To “Trump still lives in my head rent free’ in five senseless paragraphs

Since when has "patriotism" meant "supporting our government"? Did you learn anything from the late 60s, early 70s? Patriotism is about supporting your country (and it's people), not its government. Besides that, to paraphrase another, patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.

You just indicted the entire GOP, Fox News, and the whole sordid mess. Thanks for that.

The MAGA's worship trump like he's a god. He's just an angry old man backed by an oligarchy that seeks to end America's strength in the world. If you can't see that, then maybe their end of America will wake you up. *maybe* but it will be far too late to stop it.

"I'm sure that he is behind all of the recent crap that has happened to endanger US Democracy."

You're not sure of anything, but I'm sure you're an idiot.

I not vote for or against your usual histrionics on this site, but I wouldn't disagree on the premise, since the government is now insane!
