The story is not quiet clear on the significance of this event. This from KIEV, UKRAINE...

The company dates back to Soviet days when “the Ukraine” was an SSR. Totally under control of Moscow.

So Antonovs were assembled in Kiev with all parts being Russian. Around 1997, I sat in the cockpit of an Antonov At
khmelniyski airport. Curious for me as I was former USAF pilot. No, they didn’t let even crank it up.

NOW, Ukraine is an independent nation, with an uneasy alliance with its giant neighbor.

And most of the parts were made, not in EU or China,, but here in the USA.

that’s the amazing part of this...

Uneasy alliance? Russia has invaded and annexed large portions of Ukraine, and Russian-backed separatists are pushing for more territory to come under Russian control.

They got a good price on early Airbus 319 winglets...
acridbanter
with parts from the USA, the main competitive advantage of this aircraft - the low price - was destroyed.

Probably the avionics and engines are the highest value items, which are used throughout Airbus and Boeing fleets, so no.
smithfc
The engines are from Progress, a Ukrainian company, according to Wiki.
