Stalking world's biggest planes makes for photos that say 'wow'

Aggiunto

And for many folks who appreciate the world's biggest airplanes -- that statement is true both figuratively and literally. For 23 years at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, aircraft mechanic John Taylor left his sweat and elbow grease on dozens of C-5 Galaxies -- one of the largest military aircraft on Earth. So excited that the A380 now flies in/out of KATL (Atlanta). Once a day Korean Air departs around noon. Not sure what time it arrives but it is a site to see for sure!

Saw that last month when I was down there on biz.

Certain aircraft have 'impact', the Concorde, the 1st B747 and DC-10's and now the A380's. Military craft are seldom seen outwith their home airfields so few of us see them but we are aware of them. I would dearly wish to see a B52 close quarters upon take off or landing or especially a B1 Lancer anywhere......no people, it should not just be about size rather it should be about personal impact upon the soul and all aircraft enthusiast know what I mean.

I watched a group of B1's flying around in preparation for an air show in the Nevada valley just outside of Nellis AFB. That was a shight that everyone should see. Also had the opportunity to watch a C5 do touch and go's at Dobbins AFB outside of Atlanta. Those are some big birds, and as a civilian I cherish the chances I got to see those two amazing aircraft

I used to watch B-52's fly in and out of Kadena AFB when I was on Okinawa during Viet Nam. Those things are magnificent and intimidating to watch when they are low and slow on final.

Great article! I'm fortunate to live near BWI, DCA and IAD. My husband I actually have coffee dates every weekend at BWI. From the 47's and the 10's to the Antonov and the occasional military - love the jumbos!

Thank you Sir, I am UK based and have seen close quarters RAF Tornado jets whilst parked up at the end of the runway taking off and the stones in my Kidneys rattled away as I turned to jello in awe of the sight and sound of these wonderous beasts.

That is how I describe 'impact' when talking of my hobby that is aircraft.

I am very interested in seeing the A380 bank 180 degrees! That would be fascinating!

I could have said something about "size" there but that would be going far beyond cliche. But seriously though I agree with you when you say "it should not just be about size rather it should be about personal impact upon the soul and all aircraft enthusiast know what I mean". B-25, Lancaster, Mozzie, C-130, Embraer E-190 (the list goes on) all have that "personal impact" on me but having said that though the AN-225....I mean, honestly there are no words I could utter that would do her justice, none whatsoever.

Soviet AN 225 is by far the biggest plan, I did inspection work on the C5-A test aircraft during my days at Lockheed back in the 60's Just lots of aluminum honeycomb to keep weight down which caused lots of problems during the plane's service life and the old TF-39 engines were noisy and fuel hogs, now the C5's are being retrofitted with CF-60's much quiter and fuel efficent.
