Pilot of banner plane survives second plane crash this year

Aggiunto

Pilot Graham Hill and passenger Ian Conrad, both of Jacksonville, are said to be okay after a single-engine banner plane (N8715U) crash at Flavet Field at the University of Florida, according to Alachua County Deputy Sheriff's Chief Pilot for the Aviation Unit, Richard Bray. Bray says Hill was trying to land the plane after it lost power and crashed into a parked vacant pick-up truck. He says Hill did an outstanding job landing the plane. (www.ksdk.com) Altro...

Glad it worked out with only bent metal. Its not a miracle he and his passenger survived. He did a good job of not giving up and flying the aircraft into the crash. Choosing what you hit and how you hit it is much more survivable than letting anything hit you as it may.

Kind of a deceiving title on this article. For God's sake, he was shot while in the air above a city!
levyharaivan
That's not what this article is about, that was another crash in the past
zcolescott
That's exactly what this article is about...one of the two "crashes" listed.
levyharaivan
This second crash had nothing to do with getting shot in the air
zcolescott
Yes, you are correct. That's why I said the title was misleading. It said he survived second crash this year. The first was getting shot while flying above a city. I wouldn't call getting shot mid-flight a crash.
levyharaivan
Now I got it. That's true

Didn't catch that

Amazing, a 1700 pound aircraft hits and flips over a 6000 pound pickup, totaling the truck, and the pilot and passenger walk away!

oh I'm so sorry
It's crazy

I would not have expected any other outcome. Graham Hill was a great Formula 1 driver so this grace under pressure is in keeping with his past. (Don't get upset...I'm kidding...different Graham Hill of course)

I was half a mile away from this crash and went out to see the outcome, astonishing how he landed in such a short distance, I guess we pilots are really trained well

Banner Plane Crashes Near University of Florida Football Game

A plane towing an advertising banner for GEICO crashed on the University of Florida campus Saturday, October 5, 2013, according to law enforcement at the scene.

University of Florida police reported the single-engine Cessna 172 lost power while flying over Gainesville and the pilot was able to release the banner before crashing into vehicles parked at Flavet Field.

The crash occurred just after 4 p.m. local time, when the pilot, Graham Hill, 28, and his passenger, Ian Conrad, 26, started experiencing trouble with the plane.

Police said the two men were found outside the plane when crews arrived on the scene. The men were transported to the University of Florida Health, Gainesville, with non-life threatening injuries.

No one on the ground was injured but one pick-up truck was badly damaged. A Gainesville Fire Rescue spokesperson said the pilot was able to avoid “a mass casualty event.”
