(CNN) -- Their job is to keep air travelers safe in the wake of the September 11, 2001, attacks. But just how good of a job are they doing? TSA misconduct is up 26% over the last 3 years. When I heard that this morning I had to stop and think about it for a few moments. A snarky smirk first came over my face, followed by a glint in my eye and a grimace on my face. TSA misconduct is up 26% over three years, you say?

After reading my copy of The Constitution I’ve been under the impression that TSA misconduct has been up 100% over the last 10 years. Our federal government has given permission to these federal agents to perform unnecessary searches of our personal belongings. American citizens endure pat downs as common criminals or radiation each time we pass through a security check point. With federal policies against profiling the obvious terror suspects labeled as politically incorrect, burka-clad women and men with turbans escape these pat downs and x-ray vision photos while grandmothers and young children do not.

Meanwhile, I can’t take a bottle of shampoo, sunscreen, or body lotion large enough to last for an entire week in my carry-on luggage, so I have to hope that it doesn’t get broken while in the cargo hold and pour out all over my clothing.

We have allowed this to happen to us. Benjamin Franklin would be highly disappointed that we have given up our liberty for a little safety.

I can hardly disagree. Their actions toward passengers, especially children, elderly and disabled are despicable. I'll support the TSA just as soon as the number of terrorists they stop exceeds the number of TSA employees with convictions for criminal acts while on the job. That doesn't even include criminal convictions for acts off the job or prior to being hired.

Couldn't agree more with this post, and if the federal government can do it better, maybe it shouldn't be done at all. I've flown most of my adult life, mostly in the front of the skyship, and I consider ATC an ally and TSA an adversary, because they make it so. The former head of the Israeli version of TSA said in some form, not a quote, the TSA is not a security organization, it is a huge nuisance for the flying public. Consider the source. I would agree!
