I remember seeing this. I guess the Captain wanted it to be smooth (as every pilot does) But just touch down between those 2 white blocks on the runway not halfway down it! Taking up the whole runway just to be smooth..I remember one aircraft actually did run off the edge of it and split in 2 just by doing that!

From the looks of the whole approach, my guess is he was just flatly too hot, BUT, he was also there. Drop it and stand on everything. He wasn't that high over the marks. It was rough anyway.

To me it looks like the pilot was too lazy, out of fuel or something else to go around. Very dangerous to have only 3000ft to work with and not take the other, safer option. Was this US Airways?

If he was low on fuel that would have been more of a reason to just plant it on, rack the reversers and stand on the brakes. My guess, it's the mark of an incompetent pilot who just wanted to be smooth. A firm landing in the touchdown zone is better than a smooth landing outside of it!!!

@FedExCargoPilot: It didn't miss it by much right there.LOL Of course, it may have looked different from the other end. I'll give the guy the bebefit of doubt. You know the old sayin " a good landing is one you walk away from" and "almost don't count except in Atom bombs and Horsehoes"

Agreed. From the start it looked as if the approach was off, even though it is usually like this. The bank looked very steep and the plane looked as if he was too slow, then he was too high, then too fast, and was lucky the brakes were working. He did it OK, but should have aborted a while before touchdown. This looked to be his first time, looked very behind the airplane, and forced it down in the end.
