SC Applicants Flood Boeing Website

This will be a huge election issue in the Right to Work States. The recent pronouncement by Boeing that the new 737 line may not be in Renton will fuel the fire. (www.postandcourier.com) Altro...

Why will it be an election issue???????????????
jicaro
If I remember correctly a couple of months ago, one of the political sides, I think it was Democrat [might me wrong],did not want the Boeing plant to open, I think it was for GREEN reasons, and they were making a big stink about it, and at one time the State, County?? held up on there License to investigate< again I think this is what happend from what I heard in the News, but again I might not have all the facts lined up

Well based on the article and just feeling that you hear in public about the plants, it seems like the public is strongly in favor of it being there and I guess they are right; it could be an election issue if somebody was on the wrong side of it.There could be more to come across the South after OBAMA is gone and his NLRB goons aren't all over everybody after they get a plant built and nearly in production
jicaro
Personaly I will be happy when Obama is gone for many reasons, and not being political, but you know being whoever it is to stop the starting of a plant that can potentialy employee maybe thousands of workers who many do not have a job, just because political, and / or other reasons is dum.. Problems will always be there and those can be worked out I guess, but with a aprox 18% unemployment [actual more realistic numbers]> you would think a locality, County, State, Country, President oh and Union would want to get more people employed which would mean mores tax revenue, less unemployment, less food stamps, less social services> in essence less burden for the State Government, go figure what people have gotten to.
It is sad to see certain people do not give a damn what happens if there is nothing in it for them> [sorry for the long roll out]

Do you really think BHO really cares about anything except the next election and union donations? He cares nothing about SC and jobs. Keeping the unions happy so that they will donate to his election is the goal.

He uses the two 747s like they are his personal taxicabs at close to $180,000 per hour operating cost. Over 170 trips since he took office. Other presidents used them also, but nowhere close to this rate. His campaign trips will cost as much, if not more, than he will gather in donations while on these trips. He will make a multi-million trip at the taxpayer's expense, in order to obtain a million dollars in donations.

I will also be happy when BHO is out of the White House and common sense again prevails.

Ev:
True on his trip to Europe he used as you said x2 747's> do not forget the 747> Doomsday used as the Shadow airfraft> and 52 other A/C's so all could go> price tag over 500,000.00> not including Secret service, transport A/C for the vehicles etc
al you are right BHO not being disrespectful, has no idea what common sense is in what i've seen

@Wayne. I expect the NLRB ruling on Boeing to be a huge issue in the South and the non-coastal West. The idea that unelected bureaucrats can decide where a company does business is not part of the culture of all the right to work states and in many of those that are probably going to repeal union power (WI and OH top that list). Most of the R2W states are low tax and business friendly and the recipients of the population shift from the Rust Belt. Here is a map of them: http://www.nrtw.org/rtws.htm

Well, John, living in one of them(AR), you are very correct about the culture, and you can just look across from NC to TX and see where the new metros are such as Dallas and Atlanta, and contrary to what some union folks might have you believe, those folks ain't starvin'. The lower tax and business friendly is where more of it comes from than anything. Folks not only look at the bottom line but like to feel appreciated as well.

Seems that unless you were around the Seattle area everyone missed out on the strikes that Boeing had at there plants. It did no one any good in the long run as to get back what wages were lost during them usually was a wash for those involved. Boeing took it in the shorts so to speak in not being able to deliver airplanes. Now the airlines are tired of not getting there orders on time and are moving overseas where there are less labor troubles causing problems. I was a union member untill I retired and yes they are needed to keep the employers in line but sometimes overstep there bounds and cause more problems than are solved in the long run. Right to work states suffer from problems that no one unless they work in one can beleave. Ask those who work in one how great it is not to have any protecion against firing for no reason and no recorse if it happens.Boeing should be allowed to do this dont get me wrong due to the union problems in Washington state that has caused them millions of dollars over the years.

While the right to work states do basically make all jobs "AT WILL", a company of any size generally has a full grievance procedure and the whole 9 yards laid out for both the employee and NLRB and follows it in order to keep from being organized or having a suit filed. That being said, there are many that don't and in those cases it makes a good case for union protection. The biggest problems I have seen with unions of any type these days is that there is just too much corruption at the top and their prime purpose, that of representing the employees, either gets forgotten or they quit listening to what the employees want. A PRO and CON on unions could go on forever with no clear winner, but the main thing is that it should be between a company and union, without the government, ala NLRB & Boeing, getting involved.

Joy, another political discussion on a flight website. Find somewhere else to post this garbage, or at the very least find an article thats somewhat apolitical.

@99y- I believe the article is about the Boeing plant and it's applicants and has some discussion otherwise and I believe that most of the comments here are about that in some form. I would say that if you don't want to read them, then click your mouse elsewhere.

@99NY....three points that I will try to keep simple for you. Flightaware provides "aviation news" if you read the website introduction, not just "flight" postings. The economic health of the aviation industry is of great interest to the country as it is our major export.

Two, the thousands of South Carolinians that applied to Boeing to build airplanes (and the rest of us in the South) undoubtedly do not consider holding a job and supporting their families to be non-consequential even though New Yorkers and other rust belt occupants may think so. The gentlemen or ladies that posted here have appropriately articulated their personal thoughts on these economic issues which is the purpose of a discussion forum. It is not a fan club and one would not expect cheerleaders. If some of your life heroes gets criticized, so be it as their policies effect all of us, especially those that live in fly over country.

Thirdly, if you hold down your ALT key and hit the little arrow that points to the Left (you should be good at finding that aspect), it will take you back to the list of articles to read...if you did. None are forcing you to participate.

I'm gonna laugh my ars off when Obama gets re-elected. Idiots.

BoeingFan59
I want Obama to be re-elected. I don't wanna see another Bush guy taking over the US and NO I do not mean Obama as George W. Bush.

Contrary to what Obama and his thugs want, Unions are not the answer . Non-union companies in Right to Work states are our only hopes to become competitive. Most unionized industries are either bankrupt or have been bailed out by the Government. Only 7% of private workers are union members, but 44% of Gov't workers are. Any wonder why the Gov't is broke?

BTW, Matt -It was idiots who elected Obama. For the sake of the US we used to know , let's hope Obama is gone before he completely destroys this country. He passed Obamacare, Cap and Trade, and many other anti-business intiatives, and he can't figure out why companies don't want to hire anyone. Only 8% of his staff and appointees have ever worked in the private sector. He's never run a city, couty, state, or company. He's never run anything but his mouth. He is totally unqualified to be President, and he is proving that.

Does anyone remember that the economy was good until the Dems took control of congress in '06? When Harry, Nancy and and Barney Frank determined that anyone should have the right to own a home, whether or not they could pay for it, the housing bubble was created. That along with $4.00 gasoline killed the economy. Has anyone noticed that oil and gas prices sky-rocketed again , and the economy is again going in the tank ( no pun intended)?

Congrats to S C. If it wasn't a RTW state there would not be a new Boeing plant there with the multi-million dollar payroll

Living in one, I might add that there is nothing to prevent a union from organizing, except the people themselves. Most folks in the South don't want anyone talking for them or controlling their destiny. That is just plain common sense and something that seems to be unknown North of the Mason Dixon. Even some folks up there are starting to listen a little. There may be some hope in all this mess yet.If Boeing comes in and treats their people halfway decent, then the unions won't have the chance of a snowball in the South Georgia summertime of organizing them. If they don't, they will. Just sayin'
bishops90
@Boyd: you actually make some sense here and I appreciate your perspective. However, you are dead wrong about the culture of RTW states. I know what it's like because I have lived and worked here my entire life. Believe me, I have hired and fired a large number of people over the years and not once have I fired someone for "no reason". And believe me there IS PLENTY of recourse (sp) in this state if you believe you are wrongly terminated. But it is up to YOU to make your case, not some union thug who would try to intimidate and threaten an entire company. The reaction in Charleston over the opening of the Boeing site is no different than it was here where I live when BMW came to town, (who BTW just opened a 2nd assembly line at about a $400 mil investment).

Finally, some of you may be shocked to learn that many of those 3000+ applicants for those jobs in SC CAN ACTUALLY read, write (better than some people who post here), and know their multiplication tables.

Well said Brian. Your last line and the attitude that some people still have of folks in the South is intriguing. Most folks that move down here wonder why they waited so long.lol
