NTSB: Southwest 737’s engine damaged when fan blade snapped

While most images of the engine do not show the missing blade, there is one that does at http://cdn.abclocal.go.com/content/ktrk/images/cms/1487725_1280x720.jpg. I had a suspicion that a blade came off due to the damage to the fuselage. As someone in the NDT sector who as experience with gas turbine blades both forged and cast, it was easy to have such suspicions. It was good that no one was hurt when it came off.
