The order of operation must now be aviate, navigate, communicate, then selfie. Terrible. A tragedy perfectly avoidable.

Does this make an argument for or against gopros on the flight deck?

It's truly amazing how many bad decisions the pilot made on his previous flights. He was rushing engine run-ups while taxiing, loading/unloading passengers with the engine running, taking off at night with prevailing IMC, performing negative G maneuvers in the pattern to impress his passengers, checking his phone/taking pictures on downwind, base, final and even the roundout, all while not IFR or night current.

The articles are all focused on the selfies, but really the story should be about a pilot who was breaking every rule and it finally caught up to him.

Another death involving a statement such as "Wait till they see this!" (hold my beer).

Hard to feel bad for these guys...

Isn't that how bull riding started? ;-)

This seems like a whole lot of bad ADM, with the anticipated outcome of such. I'd think climbing to 750 AGL with a 500 AGL overcast at night when not night or instrument current were the most significant factor. The NTSB report bases the contributing factor of the flash from cell phone cameras on GoPro video of the flight previous to the accident. The accident flight was not recorded, so that is only a guess that this activity continued.

Fair presumption though - maybe they were trying to use last months T-Mobile data? They saw the Kim Kardashian commercial and all bets were off ;-P

(yes, I know I am going to hell).

Wonderful, because of idiots like him they probably ban now cameras and camera crews like Justplanes and PilotsEye from the Flightdeck.

Selfies Likely Led to Deadly Plane Crash

This may rank as one of the deadlier selfies-that-kill stories: The photos likely contributed to not one person's death, but two. The NTSB report on a May 31 plane crash in Watkins, Colo., cites recordings from a GoPro camera found at the scene.
