While the plot of the box-office smashing Top-Gun: Maverick will likely be known to many readers by now, the full story of how the film was made is still unfolding. Two and a half years ago, The War Zone reported on how many of the aerial sequences that would become the movie's most impressive moments were being filmed. (www.thedrive.com) Altro...

ALL of this is a dumb move. Risk taxpayers money so hollywood gets their fix. These anti-americans need to go take a hike.

$11,000/hr was paid to the Navy for all this.

True, that wouldn't cover an accident but I'll bet Navy was flying that jet.

You may rest assured a carrier qualified aviator was in one of the front seats, and probably paid a sag wage! Can you say the 'airwing commander'?

11K an hour covers NOTHING if something goes wrong here. NOTHING
AlanGlover

Well, not NOTHING.
Anyway, those vehicles are designed to have aircraft approach at speed so I'm sure it was just another day in ATC

Take out a few parked f18's and 11K is effectively NOTHING.

Does Navy pay for/use insurance?

The US military is 'self insured', it's called "your taxpayer dollar"!

The feat itself is rather boring but the fact the Navy approved it is the real story.

I wonder how the Navy would have reacted had the biz jet crashed into the island by accident. This I take it was a stunt approved by who?

The Military had to approve it and I am sure they setup Safeguards!

Thank goodness i wasn't tricked into watching a Flight Simulator Phenom landing. That is pretty dang cool, and the fact that the NAVY let it get that close says something for sure.

Awesome interview with LaRosa on "The Fighter Pilot Podcast" regarding the movie and the carrier shots. Well worth the listen.

lol.... just so you know, there is nothing woke about it. It's still a classic TC stroking his own kinda movie.

It's great and I suppose the mandatory "diversity" of the new Top Guns could be construed as woke but good guys vs bad guys still works.
