This is obviously a boost for Boeing at a time when they badly need every order they can get. But a long-term Chinese freeze on Airbus products will have a serious effect in the US as well. According to their own website (http://www.airbus.com/company/americas/us/)...

"For the production of its jetliners, Airbus spends 42 percent of its aircraft-related procurement in the U.S. – buying more parts, components, tooling and other material from the United States than any other country. Workers in more than 40 states help build Airbus aircraft, supporting 210,000 high-quality manufacturing jobs across the U.S. Since 1990, Airbus has spent $127 billion in the U.S. with hundreds of American suppliers. This supplier network involves some of the most respected names in American aerospace, including Alcoa, Eaton, GE, Goodrich, Hamilton Sundstrand, Honeywell, Northrop Grumman, PPG, Pratt & Whitney, Rockwell Collins and Spirit Aerosystems."

I'm certainly no fan of Airbus and I suspect the 42% figure is a stretch. But there is no doubt that many American jobs would be placed in jeopardy by a long-term fight between Europe and China (and now India). And we can't afford that as our economy struggles back to its feet.

Can you explain how you are not a "fan" of Airbus? It's an airplane and it flies. What is there not to be a "fan" of? I doubt that 42% is a stretch. Would 40% be more reasonable for you? I don't see why you would doubt a figure that is in favour of American jobs. Bottom line is: no one on God's green earth has the "silver bullet", single ONE piece of evidence that would state Boeing is better than Airbus. IT DOES NOT EXIST! It's such a tired theme... If you think Airbus sucks, then so does Boeing because an Airbus product probably has just as much "American" parts in it as a Boeing product does.

People are fans of one company or the other based on nationalism and experience with the aircraft. It is just the way people are but the recognition that both companies employ a lot of people in a lot of countries is correct. The pissing contest doesn't help anybody. I think this is backlash from the emissions tax in the EU. It seems unreasonable to me. But economics will ultimately resolve that.
