Snowstorm causes more than 459 flight delays, 543 cancellations at Denver airport

All flights will have to stop at de-icing pads before takeoff at Denver International Airport

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

Air travelers dealt with delays at Denver International Airport Tuesday as snow fell on the metro area for the third day in a row.

As of 5:30 p.m., airlines had delayed 459 flights and cancelled 543 flights into or out of Denver, said Emily Williams, a DIA spokeswoman.

“Airlines are looking forward…deciding to cancel flights preemptively,” Williams said.

Departures were delayed an average of 50 minutes and inbound flights were delayed at their origin airports for an average of three hours and 13 minutes, according to FlightAware, an airline tracking website, at about 11:45 a.m.

Those who are driving should leave plenty of time to get to the airport, Williams said. She suggested taking the light rail’s A line to get to the airport rather than driving on slick roads.

Travelers should call their airlines before leaving home to assure the schedule for their flights haven’t changed.

All flights will have to stop at de-icing pads before takeoff.
