Brian - I "captured" this same C-17, USAF s/n 03-3121, on 35mm film back in 2005. It was parked on the ramp and on static display during the 2005 "Defenders of Liberty" airshow at Barksdale AFB!

Yes, John. The C-130's practice this also.

This is an ordinary parachute cargo drop. LAPES is performed just above the ground without a parachute other than the one that pulls it out of the caro bay. The cargo just drops to the ground and slides.
