Douglas DC-3 (N229GB) - Shown here in the Autumn of 2018 is the front of a Naval Air Transport Service Douglas R4D-6 Twin Engine plane. R4D is the Navy designation of a Douglas DC3 Airliner. This Aircraft was built in Kansas City coming off the Douglas assembly line in 1944 to help with the War effort. That nose ring is a radio direction finder antenna. The Aircraft is currently in restoration at the MAAM facility at the KRDG Airport and the serial number does not include the letter "N".

This Douglas R4D-6 was assigned U.S. Navy BuNo. 50819 according to Joe Baugher's published information. Mr. Baugher adds this, "Douglas R4D-6, Navy equivalent of C-47B-DK."

Further information as he has provided specific to this aircraft...

Checking in on Mr. Baugher's USAAF aircraft information, you'll find this regarding the Douglas R4D-6 in this photo -

"43-49613/49962, Douglas C-47B-20-DK, MSN 26874/27223 (originally allocated MSN 15429/15778)".

"49613 (MSN 15429/26874) to USAAF Nov 29, 1944, to US Navy as R4D-6 BuNo 50819 Jan 1945."
