I am curious about the wing tip modification.
Can anyone advise what the flight advantages are?

Bill... Your question stirred my curiosity. I found this information regarding those wingtips, which apparently are original to this Beech 18, a "G" model...

"This is the squared wing tip typical of the E, G and H aircraft. This was a Beech factory tip that helped increase the gross weight as well as improving the low speed and stall characteristics. As can be seen in the photo the Beech squared tip has wash out which reduces the angle of attack of the wing tip thus the tip will stall last giving good aileron authority and control late into the stall. This will reduce the wing break tendencies during the stall and will tend to mush straight ahead instead of going hard over."

BILL, TRADEWIND CONVERSON?
Civilian C45 or If Navy SNB
This is a civilian market Beech 18, post-war. Very nice handling aircraft, flew one a couple weeks ago!

Sam, and others, this is a 1960 G18S, it has the late model taller cabin and constant chord wing tips. There is also a square wing tip that looks more like the original round tip that was tapered, the Pac Aero tip. That's the tips we had on the E18S that I flew years ago, if I remember correctly the gross weight was #10,100.

The Tradwind conversion has the longer nose for the nose gear and a single vertical tail. There are also conversions for turbine engines, and those have a much longer nose too.
Nice photo.

Fholbert-It was actually up flying yesterday morning around 9am while I was flying... not so much me flying as being number 4 for departure and having to wait about 10 min for some arrivals as well as those departures lol

Wasn't that Sky Kings First Plane?
Champdriver
No, Sky King had a Cessna T-50 Bamboo Bomber, and then the Cessna 310.
Can any of you guys give real World Hourly and Annual Costs $ to operate a Beech D18? There is one for sale here in the Philippines and the price seems pretty good.
Thanks to you all for the very informative feedback & in particular Cliff
for the twinbeech link. A tricycle gear Beech 18! What is the world coming to.....
