**thanks, i have read all that before. They talk about higher 'fees' and such. CASE IN POINT, "SPIRIT AIRLINES", have you ever traveled on them and be subjected to their "NICKEL and DIME" type fees ("BAIT AND SWITCH"). GOVT DOES SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THAT, but the last two major airlines to form ONE, the GOVT 'CRIES'**

I remember when AA bought out RenoAir, and TWA; the GOVT didnt raise a 'stink' about that. You know what it comes down to, is "YOU WASH MY BACK, I'LL WASH YOUR BACK"....give HOLDER and crew their FREE LIFETIME UPGRADES, and EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE; YOU WAIT AND SEE ***
** REMEMBER BACK IN THE DAYS when airlines issued paper tkts, and they EVEN HAD TICKET OFFICES to change a tkt and pay addl amnt if you had to, but i guess the EXECS of United and now USAIR dont remember back then. Today, its "E" tkt and takes just a "point and click" of the computer to change, so WHY is their such an ENORMOUS FEE for doing so!! I even remember when the "sell-up" type fare had in their fare basis code ..Q25; meaning if you had to change your "PAPER" tkt, they charged you 25percent penalty plus any addl fare on the nonrefundable tkt. I can just 'vision' on what "may" happen. Folks will search/call and find the cheapest ow fare on 'somebody'...and you can just 'guess' what may happen to the other part of the original tkt. CONE ON NOW, $200 to change; ie, for a funeral, illness in the immediate family, etc!!! You might want to say, that they really make a "LAUGHING STOCK" of themselves in this industry. THANKS

(AND HOW DO YOU THINK THAT WOULD PLAY OUT IF A MERGER WERE TO HAPPEN)! AA STARTED THE FREQUENT FLYER PROGRAM MANY YEARS AGO, AND ITS PRETTY EXTENSIVE. AA IS IN THE "ONEWORLD" ALLIANCE ALONG W/BRITISH AIRWAYS, JAPAN AIRLINES, IBERIA, ALASKA, ETC. IT WAS AA WHO "FOUGHT" HARD TO KEEP JAPAN AIRLINES IN THE "ONEWORLD" ALLIANCE. DO YOU PEOPLE "HONESTLY" BELEIVE THAT AA "WOULD EVEN THINK" OF A MERGER; LET ALONE W/US AIRWAYS!!

SINCE HUGE AMERICAN COMPANIES HAVE OPERATIONS SET UP IN OTHER COUNTRIES and THEY HIRE OUT THEIR OWN COUNTRY'S NATIONALS, WHY NOT HAVE AB SET UP SHOP HERE AND HIRE SKILLED AMERICAN WORKERS, ESPECIALLY ONES THAT HAVE EXPERTISE IN THIS FIELD; AND LAID OFF FROM THEIR OUT-SOURCE JOBS (HAY, WHAT GOES AROUND, COMES AROUND)! AA IS LOOKING TO PURCHASE AIRBUS AIRCRAFT, AMONG OTHER CARRIERS, MAKES SENSE TO HAVE A QUALIFIED MAINTENANCE AIRBUS FACILITY HERE IN THE US. AN EMPTIED and NO LONGER USED MD-80 FACILTY SUCH AS LONG BEACH, or STL WHERE BOEING ONCE HAD A HUGE OPERATION WHEN IT TOOK OVER M.DOUGLAS'S OPERATION, BACK IN THE DAYS! STLOUIS SEEMS A GOOD PLACE W/A NEWLY REDISGNED AIRPORT AND FIELD, and THE "FACTORY" WOULD BE ON SIGHT OF THE ARPT. MAKES SENSE.
***AS LONG AS IT IS A "CASH REFUND"; AFTER ALL YOU PAID W/CASH, RIGHT!! There may be those airlines that wld refund in a form of a 'vocher' to be used toward your next flt; HOWEVER, a 'voucher/coupon' can only be used when you CALL for that RESERVATION; and you know some airlines CHARGE you for using that VOUCHER, and CHARGE you for makeing that call toward your reservation....HENCE, that VOUCHER'S face value "DEFLATED". PEOPLE...KNOW WHAT YOU SHOULD BE GETTING AND WHAT IS RIGHT and watch YOUR carrier's plan , in a TOTAL CASH REFUND...THNKS
**RE: IN THE CASE W/UAL. Not so long ago, soon after the announcement from BA about their new NS svc from DEN to LHR, UAL decided to pull out of that market offering ONLY connxs. IF I WERE a customer in that market and from all the previous HUPLA and my NS was xld, I WLD EITHER "DEMAND" a refund or to be reacommadated on BA'S NS service. A connx wld be UNACCEPTABLE! AFTER ALL; THEY ADVERTISED THIS NEW N/S SERVICE, I PAID FOR THAT, AND THAT IS WHAT I WANTED. If that airline CANT deliver what they said, then i would go elsewhere; such as BA'S N/S svc. Before the arrival of their N/S svc, i could have gone w/AA thru connxs, DL w/connxs; then, CO (before the merger) w/connxs. IN THIS CASE, the airline (UAL) was wrong; NO, the public was wrong for not STICKING UP FOR THEIR WRIGHTS! THANKS.
