The plains are really still in the "Development" stage and it will be hard to say definitively that the US Market isn't at risk. If you eliminate a competitor, costs go up. The fallout over this ego driven trade war is not going to be small... and with China's reciprocal 25% tariff on aircraft, I wouldn't want to be sitting with a pile of Boeing stock right now. They have over 300 orders from Chinese companies, and it won't be long before those start getting cancelled and switched to AirBus or ... dare I say it, Bombardier!

Good post. The real victims of a trade war will be the U.S. consumers. That's who will have to pay the higher prices because of the higher tariffs. No company will absorb them and accept lower profits. They will all be passed on and probably marked up in the process. If Trump cared about his base, he wouldn't be sticking everyone with a higher cost of living. Does anyone think wages will go up to offset the tariffs? And if they did, that would raise the cost of goods and services, and then you've got serious inflation.

Of course, if President Dennison hadn't gone bankrupt numerous times to skip out on his debts, and if he'd paid people he had contracts with, and if he didn't sue countless times to intimidate his way out of a jam, he'd have some understanding and empathy with his base. When they finally turn on him, it'll be UGLY. All the people kissing his butt now can look forward to decades of Dems in the White House, Senate, and House and it will all be because of Donny. RECOR10 and his ilk will scream threats at me for saying that, but it's what will happen and why it will happen whether they can admit it or not.

People fail to realize that Trump is a BILLIONAIRE due to his skills in International Business. So, surely he is ignorant to how things run. But, people who cant see beyond their own dogmatic pious are hell bent on blaming him for everything from bad M&M's to sick kittens. We will see how this all pans out...but, the other posters who are nothing but insults...well...lowest common denominator arguments. In any argument - as soon as someone makes an insult...they lost the argument. Seems facts never get into the way of a good personality bashing for many.

Actually he’s a litigious rip-off artist who probably isn’t really a billionaire.

And, the most productive President for individual rights for decades. Plus he has a higher rating than shitbag Obama had at the same point in his apathetic tenure. What is extra special fun, on top of my family being in the oil production business, I work in healthcare...Win-Win with Trump!

The next time you ever consider a fact and prove you can think for yourself instead of spouting the nonsense Faux News spews will be the first time.

How does it feel to be in the ever-dwindling "base"? His trade war will hurt the oil business because it buys a lot of stuff such as steel from China, the aerospace business (steel and aluminum), and the health care industry (have a look at all the "Made in China" labels next time to show up for work while you still have a job).

How generous of you to care about how Trump's trade war will hurt agriculture. Keep that in mind when the prices you pay in the supermarket go up, but don't blame the farmers. Give all the credit to President Dennison.

"Seems facts never get into the way of a good personality bashing for many." Like your "shitbag Obama" comment below? Pot. Kettle. Black. You're one of those people who can look in a mirror and see an asshole without having to bend over first.

At least you were 100% correct about one thing you said about Trump: "surely he is ignorant to how things run".

And THAT is what you want in a President??

Really DUMB move by Trump. How many Chinese made aircraft, jet engines or helicopters are sold in the USA? I bet the answer is ZERO - meanwhile China is the BIGGEST market for Boeing commercial airplanes and Boeing is the biggest and most successful US exporter. Also Boeing incorporates parts made in China into their aircraft - this move will just increase Boeing's costs vis a vis Airbus, Bombardier and Embraer. Far from being a "master of 3D chess" and "the art of the deal" Trump is turning out to be the biggest moron to ever occupy the Oval office. He makes George W Bush look like Stephen Hawkings

So, Boeing can start making those Chinese parts in the US...Unions win! (where are my drums, I need to start beating on them ;-)

You missed the part where I said China is Boeings BIGGEST market (bigger than the USA!) - 1/3 OF Boeing aircraft are sold to China - this market will now dry up. This is not a win for US workers

I did not miss that. However, if the over all gain to the US is offset by the loss of some Boeing labor? And? This is nothing more than a nothing. It is simply a game. I do not give a rip about some guy in Seattle as long as the price of MY purchases goes down. That is simply how I, and most voters think.

My family has played the game for three generations now. Fighting with taxes, tariff's, EPA and Unions...We found that the easiest solution was to get rid of all US facilities and simply use 100% foreign labor and banking (all assets in the South East). Then salary ourselves from US banks...Boeing cant due to their number of contracts with the Fed. Govt (Military). Boeing can simply 'spin off' a company, incorporate in a tax friendly nation and build a facility in China someplace. There, problem solved.

Two perfect examples of the exact same strategy are Carnival and Royal Caribbean. The US can invoke any tariff or tax that they want. The ships are "flagged" typically from island nations where the US laws simply do not matter (labor and Min. Wage laws for starters). Smart business works around the Government, not with the Government. In the end, the consumer will always pay the price for the Government getting involved...always. As a note, the only RC boat that paid US wages went.

Heck, even with our families aircraft is is almost always serviced in South America...as most large US carriers do...for a reason.

Such effect will only force China to better develop and improve their own product. . . . and a better, more advanced Chinese airplane may prove as the third major player for this worldwide industry.

That'll have a huge effect (not). Look at the article closely: "No US customer has ordered or expressed interest in any Chinese-made commercial airliner. Instead, all three projects are likely to feature major US companies as Tier 1 suppliers for engines and aircraft systems."

So we’re starting a trade war for no reason. Seems pretty dumb.

More often than not the issue is not the durable good, it is the "feeling" behind it. While 30 years ago no one in Beijing would have known of the sentiment, today everyone from Shanghai to Chengdu will 'know' about it. But, those who dont understand international politics simply never will understand. Much akin to the "Diplomats" being tossed from many nations in recent times. I bet they are all already back. It is all simply a dog and pony show.
