You can get away with high, fast appraches in good weather. Cat 2 ops, essential that you are on speed, on course, configured for landing.

And might I add, HF, at the GS intercept altitude. If you are high, as was stated in this case, the autopilot will not capture the "true" GS from above, but may capture a "false" one that leads to who knows where? The unrealistically high descent rate needed to follow the false GS should have been a major clue. TERPS and the AIM are fairly well established references.
