Miscue to Rescue and LUCK should be the title. He didn't say in the story, but after using his portable transceiver to verify his ELT was on, did he try a call in the blind? Also, another pilot on the local center frequencies could have provided a relay. Just glad it turned out Ok.
This is a well done 25 minute video. It's a real-life cautionary story -with happy ending- that deconstructs a sequence of bad choices and the results of unexpected circumstances.
