Well, Herb ain't around anymore, at least on the day-to-day but his legacy lives on. Love 'em or hate 'em, they will be a force to be reckoned with, more than they are now. Dallas is the prime outbound market for that part of Texas and Ft.Worth just the ugly duckling, which is why they will fill out DAL. Heck, if you built a nice terminal at Alliance with 5 or 10 gates, Southwest would probably fill them.

Happy Spring time. BWI looks like South West International. It'll bee a nice airport if they ever get it finished. SWA picked up a bunch of DNs out of Love and of course through the buy out, but they picked up some international routs as well. My bet is they'll be back to all 73s in a couple or three years

I think they already are. Didn't they do a deal with DAL on all those 717's from AirTran?
That rings a bell now that you mention it. The author was pretty non-specific, as usual, when he was talking about a mixed fleet.
Yeah, I saw that mixed fleet business in there and wondered what I had missed. They handed over that last 717 to DAL last fall I thought.
I wouldn't know when exactly, but the deal sounds familiar. That whole buyout is growing whiskers or seems to be.
Dont know if all 717s are in service yet, but they all go removed from the SWA fleet last fall, regardless. DL started phasing them in well before that though.

As he said, they are gone from SWA inventory. I'm not sure either if DAL has put them in service but they have been putting them in service since last year some time, I think since around mid-year.
It all makes sense to me, well kinda. SWA has always been more than Boeing centric specifically 737 centric and exclusive. It's kinda nice for the maintenance guys to stock a limited parts inventory. A part can be pulled and sent to a broken airplane anywhere in the system and it should lead to better and more thorough maintenance. Unfortunately that's not been the case as evidenced by the big fines they have forfeited in the past few years. I wonder what uncle charlie does with all that fine money. ATC should have all new computers by now instead of key punch machines. And I thought I was on the trailing edge of technology.
Well, it would be nice if ALL government agency fines went back into the general area that they came from, but they just all fall off into that black hole up there and infrastructure left to suffer cause of no money.
Yea, for sure. Once the spend it on a runway or "tarmac" hehe Mercy I hate that term, they can no longer steal it. So many success stories throughout Congress. I've never had a good answer from anyone in the legal system, prosecutors and judges mostly, where the fines go and why does the State get theirs first while victims go hungry. No sense tilting at windmills though. Makes for good bar conversation with members of the bar. hehehe

Of course that's kinda like Denver. Everybody, including a lot of aviation folks, Have used DIA ever since Stapletion was opened and it has always been DEN. Tarmac is just something that was there and has been picked up and used all these years. I've even heard some pilots use it. LOL
:-) I know what you mean. It's just one of those terms that grates on me like fingernails on slate. Fact is when I was a younger guy I worked construction and was on the back of a "tar truck" . I shot tar lots of times especially on big parking lots like Bear Mountain State Park in NY. RT12 at 320 deg. was a days work in 20 minutes. I appeared in the shotgun seat. one day leaving my operator to do it all. We had a tail wind that pass and the 300deg creosote fumes were overwhelming. I wonder how I got COPD? :-0. That was the old Macadam paving process using road tar instead of asphalt. I got quite an education over the years. My head is full of useless, antique was of doing things. Funny, at one time I was considered an expert now I'm a dinosaur. heheh,
Never have shot tar but I can relate to the dinosaur part. The only good part about getting old is that you do get called on to answer a question from back in the day that no body else can answer because it was before their time. LOL. Me and a lawyer are fussing with a 401K company out in Colorado and I guess I am fixing to have to go out there, idk. I had all my retirement moved into a private account account out there as that is where the company had theirs so all was cool. Well, last year the company moved theirs out to another provider. I went here a few weeks ago to pull mine and move it down here to my local bank so my wife could get to it easy if anything happened. Let's just say it ain't transferring easy, possession is 9/10 of the law and Social Security by itself is rough to try and live on. It may be summer but I'll get it
Ouch. I'd say I hope it's not a lot of money, but 401Ks are by definition, a lot of money. I certainly wish you the best in the situation. No doubt you'll get it all, but the time game is what makes money for them at your expense. Right off the bat you have to spring for a trip to (DIA) :-) Couldn't resist
Ordinarily that would be a yes on the DIA trip but the company is going to fly me out there if I have to go. And well, it ain't a small chunk, but represents a lifetime of packing it. And you are right, they are making money with it while it sits.
Same game insurance companies have played forever. Sorry to hear your tangled up in it all. Sounds like you have some smart and savy folks on your team, but they have already moved their funds so no real clout and the legal route is always s l o w.
Well, in the deal, they will pay attorney fees. I don't think that I'll get it until late May or early June, which is when they make a normal disbursement and they have it over in a special risk account. I think what is gonna happen is that they will take interest made and pay the attorney and then we split the rest. We'll see.
There must be more to it all than I can even imagine. The very idea that you would have to retain an attorney to claim your own money in an investment account that's in your name and tax ID is just wrong on so many levels. It's like going to collections against a bank to collect your savings account funds. From what you're saying at least the way I'm hearing it you have to pay a lawyer out of your funds that they owe you in order to take possession. That is hard for me to get my head around. I'm sure you've checked with the S.E.C. Can't they provide some leverage?
You are right on all of it except they will pay the lawyer, at least that's what we have filed for and the SEC is the one handling the deal as that is where the lawyer went 1st. You are right in that it is my money but in the 401K world there are so many regs regarding disbursements that it ain't funny, just one big PITA.
I know what you mean. They almost act as though it was a budgeted gift rather than an obligation like payroll and then the government steps in to "help". I love Reagan's quote, '...I'm from the government. I'm hear to help you'. They end up turning what should be a simple matter of private property into a bureaucratic maze even lawyers cant unravel by themselves.

I could have left it out there and avoided all this but didn't want to deal with anybody I didn't know. I can put it her and walk in and choke my banker if I need to. Besides, we are going to split some of it up to do some stuff with and K the rest. What I break out with, I'll have to pay taxes on as it's all pretax.

They were designed with just that in mind. Many move their accounts after "retirement" to a bank or investment house IRA where distribution is tax minimized and self "throttled". A more self directed approach like your plan.
