Undersea search could cost a quarter billion dollars, official says
A prolonged undersea search for the missing Malaysian jetliner could cost nearly a quarter of a billion U.S. dollars if private companies are used, Australia's top transport official said Thursday. Martin Dolan emphasized that the $234 million price tag is a "ballpark rough estimate" of an extended search and salvage mission. It seems pretty likely that the Captain of MH370 was disaffected over political conditions in Malaysia and circumstances in his personal life and selfishly decided to make a political statement by enabling the plane's disappearance in a manner that it would not likely ever be found. Perhaps to be a perpetual thorn in the side of the Malaysian Government. If this were not the case the plane as reported would not have made such a complex effort to avoid radar and other detection. Furthermore no organized entity has taken credit for the terrorist act.
Malaysian officials need to be brought before some type of international tribunal to explain why they did immediately report the plane missing once both its own ATC and Vietnamese ATC could not establish contact. Their decision not to do so has made the recovery of the aircraft a much more costly and difficult endeavor. Furthermore Malaysia needs to explain why their Air force did not respond more aggressively to a large unidentified aircraft passing through their airspace unchallenged. It also appears from FlightAware data and other similar information systems that the tracking data for the aircraft stopped while MH370 was over Malaysian land and there was still some voice communication with the aircraft...so why did not Malaysian ATC ask MH370 about the problem...such a dialogue could have provided further clues as to what was up with the flight?
Bottom line this incident because of serious lapses by Malaysian government at multiple levels raises serious questions as to where it is safe for commercial aviation to be traveling in and through Malaysian airspace. Some strong international action is need to wake up other governments who have the potential to unwittingly allow a similar circumstances to occur in their ATCs.

Nobody knows who, what or how its just an indication from the aeroplanes movements it seems deliberate.
In America unfortunately yes there would be fighter jets everywhere chasing a Cessna 152 but check flightaware, and other tracking software and it's a very busy flight corridor. Despite the 11th September debacle the rest of the world does not panic when a slow moving dot on primary radar does not approach a military establishment.
The question of how Malaysia handled the initial procedures will be visited through the investigation and recommendations for procedural improvements done if they are identified as such.
Just as the FAA recommends changes they deem necessary they have no power to do so. If procedural issues are identified Malaysia/MAL do not have to implement either.
Not being privy to ATC or other communications its an area of guesswork I wouldn't even want to entertain.
As for the money the media has a spin on everything. An example is NZ estimate is 2.5 million but the question was what was the PC Orion doing before hand? the same type of work in a different area spending the same money?
The US spend was 3.9 million for one ship and 3.2 M for the other in the media. There are resources that are dedicated to the task only not otherwise utalised, or losing money on other projects but what the true cost and what's the media spin. We will never know.

A question - Has there been too many aeroplanes and ships needed?
Its a unique situation and the investigation may take years to come to a conclusion and lead to answers some people will not like. At the depth few if any bodies will be recovered if they can find it
Its sad for them but more agonising if they screaming and yelling seeking answers that are not there. So honour the dead by living life to the fullest.
