United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Ontario

ONTARIO (CBSLA.com) — A United Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Ontario minutes after departing from LAX.

United flight 1181, which was flying from LAX to Dulles in Washington, D.C., diverted to Ontario International Airport around 9 a.m. due to reports of a burning smell, according to the FAA.

"We were flying along and someone smelled something burning in the back," Julie Baker, a passenger, said. "We were told that there was a problem and that the pilot felt we should be diverted to Ontario and about five minutes later, we were on the ground."

Passenger Mitchell Hashimoto tweeted that he saw smoke in the cabin of the Boeing 757.

All 199 passengers and seven crew members were able to exit the plane safely.

"Our maintenance team is reviewing the aircraft, and we're working as quickly as possible to get our customers to Washington, D.C.," United Airlines said in a statement.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the burning smell remains under investigation.

In the meantime, the airline says all passengers have been re-booked to their final destinations.
